Library Reading Programs for Elementary School Children
In Fall 2011 TBE Library ran three successful reading programs for children aged Kindergarten through 5th grades.
The popular Sefer Safari Reading program for K-2nd grade ran for a third year and was concluded on November 30, 2011. 36 children participated in the program, an increase of 14 more than the previous year. 104 book slips were submitted for prizes. Kindergartner Sam Bertcher, who read seven books, was the lucky winner of a gift certificate to Nicola's Books, Ann Arbor. Other winning readers received a holiday book for the most books read per grade level.
TBE Third graders were challenged to participate in a Book Bingo, reading a minimum of five books from nine categories. Winner in this contest was avid reader, Alex Lopez. Fourth and Fifth graders had the opportunity to read an inspiring story - either history, biography, or historical fiction - and write a brief essay about the person or incident that inspired them. Our two winners were 4th grader Bridget Roberts, who wrote about Miriam, and 5th grader Grace Chinitz, who wrote about Harry Houdini. Alex, Bridget, and Grace all received a gift certificate to Nicola's Books, Ann Arbor.
Congratulations to all of our young readers!
