Going Green
The Reform Jewish movement recently launched a comprehensive web resource on "greening and other environmental issues". The goal is to help individuals and congregations "incorporate an ethic of environmental stewardship into every aspect of Jewish life". Resources available on the site (http://www.urj.org/green) include educational curricula, tools for an energy audit, worship materials, best practices from "green synagogues," environmental holiday guides and resources on Israel and the Environment. The site also connects users to the environmental advocacy work of the Reform movement's Religious Action Center (http://www.rac.org) as well as resources from other environmental organizations.
TBE's "Green committee" chair is meeting with the Genesis Alternative energy subcommittee to explore ground source heat pumps (geothermal), photovoltaic (solar) cells, and wind turbines as a means of lowering our dependency on fossil fuels. In addition, the Green committee is exploring implementing a car-pooling plan. If you're a parent of religious school students who would be interested in car-pooling, please contact Bob Milstein (milsteinfamily@comcast.net).
