Back Door Food Pantry

"You are so kind. You treat us with dignity and respect. And I like being able to choose the food I like." -- A BDFP Patron

The Back Door Food Pantry (BDFP) is a collaborative effort between Temple Beth Emeth, St. Clare's Episcopal Church and the Muslim community to provide hunger relief with dignity.

Founded in 2009 by four female members of St. Clare's Episcopal Church, with Temple Beth Emeth signing on as a co-sponsor in 2009 , the BDFP is an all-volunteer organization that operates from Wisdom House on the Genesis of Ann Arbor grounds. On Thursdays from 4:00 to 7:00pm, perishable and non-perishable groceries and basic personal hygiene products are distributed to patrons, with no ID or proof of need required.  An equal opportunity provider, the BDFP is an affiliate of Food Gatherers, the organization that provides most of the purchased and donated food and other assorted items distributed.

Temple Beth Emeth members can support the Back Door Food Pantry in several ways. Financial donations are always welcome to help purchase fresh produce, groceries and other items on our wish list. Donations of non-perishable food that is unopened, labeled and unexpired, and toiletries are solicited and accepted periodically. Finally, volunteers are always needed for designated shifts on Tuesdays and Thursdays to help with unpacking deliveries, organizing and distributing food et al. to patrons, closing up and taking the weekly inventory.
