Hanukkah Candle Lighting at Temple Beth Emeth - nightly at 7 p.m., December 18 & 22 at 8 p.m.

Join Rabbi Josh and Cantor Regina for a brief gathering to light the giant Hanukkiah lights in front of Temple Beth Emeth, 2309 Packard, Ann Arbor. Enjoy the Festival of Lights with friends, songs, and treats to help brighten and sweeten the holiday. We will be out there every night, regardless of the weather.

Donations to Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County and the Back Door Food Pantry will be graciously accepted each evening. Please see below for a list of requested items.

DONATIONS

JEWISH FAMILY SERVICES: As the only resettlement agency in Washtenaw County, JFS has resettled thousands of individuals from all over the world. In the last year JFS has resettled 450 people, and they expect to resettle 350-400 in 2023. Family countries of origin have included Somalia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Burma, Ukraine, Guatemala, Honduras, Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen, and India. In September alone, we welcomed 10 families from various countries. 

The JFS Resettlement program very gratefully accepts a number of kitchen items and furniture items in very good, clean used condition. Their highest needs items are:

  • Linens (all new, please):  Twin sheet sets, twin comforters and queen sized comforters (please not the fleece type).
  • Bathroom needs: New shower curtains/liners/rings and bath rugs.
  • Kitchen: New tall trash cans with lids, new cutting boards. 

 

BACK DOOR FOOD PANTRY: Items in demand  and unavailable for purchase at Food Gatherers:

  • Quarts of all varieties of shelf stable non dairy beverages [no refrigeration needed until open] 
  • Condiments such as catsup, mayo, sauces , relishes and salad dressings
  • Dry black or lentil beans in  1 and  2-lb bags 
  • Cans of vegetarian refried and baked beans
  • Full size reusable non-paper shopping bags 

Reminder: Donations to the BDFP should be unopened, in the original packaging that lists ingredients and allergens and has an unexpired "sell-by"  or "use-by" date. Please avoid glass containers.
