The High Holy Days are coming...do you feel prepared? Do you know which services you would find most fulfilling? Do you avoid asking what tashlich is because it's so hard to pronounce? Do you want to know more about Yom Kippur than simply that it is the "Day of Atonement"? Then join Rabbi Chelsea for this 4-session class designed to help everyone feel more comfortable, knowledgeable, and engaged during the High Holy Day season here at TBE! This class is ideal for folks who are new(ish) to our community, those looking to deepen their understanding of Jewish history and worship practices, and anyone interested in meeting with clergy and fellow congregants to have more familiar faces in the congregation when they attend services. Each session will cover a different topic, and participants need not attend all 4, though we would love to see you as often as possible!
Session Titles/Topics:
What to Expect When You're Attending: How High Holy Days Run at TBE, September 9
In this session we will review the overall flow of the High Holy Day season (which includes more than just Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur!), define key terms, explain the different services offered at TBE, and share about how our clergy and staff can help make your HHD experience as smooth and meaningful as possible.
High Holiday Musical Preview with Cantor Emma Maier, September 16
We are thrilled to have our amazing new cantor, Emma Maier, join the class to share about the musical pieces we can expect to hear at services this year!
Rosh HaShanah: Beyond "Happy New Year!", September 23
In this session we will trace the history of Rosh HaShanah, review significant liturgy, explore the Torah and Haftarah portions read in our services, and more! You are also encouraged to send questions you have about Rosh HaShanah in advance to Rabbi Chelsea at rabbifeuchs@templebethemeth.org
Yom Kippur: Beyond "The Day of Atonement", September 30
In this last class we will trace the history of Yom Kippur, review significant liturgy, explore the Torah and Haftarah portions read in our services, and more! You are also encouraged to send questions you have about Yom Kippur in advance to Rabbi Chelsea at rabbifeuchs@templebethemeth.org
