Friday, November 15, 2024 • 14 Cheshvan 5785
5:30 PM - 6:15 PMTBE Social HallTemple Beth Emeth (TBE) is thrilled to welcome Rabbi Richard Address as a scholar-in-residence to share his spiritual and celebratory approach to the aging process. Rabbi Address, a leading voice on aging in the Jewish world, will be teaching throughout November 15 and 16. Friday evening services and Saturday programming are open not just to TBE members, but to the entire Washtenaw Jewish community.
Rabbi Address is the Founder and Director of www.jewishsacredaging.com. In a culture that often denies or shuns aging, Rabbi Address champions a radically different approach. He speaks of aging as a process with many opportunities for celebration, describing this time as the harvest stage of life. As we age, we deserve to reap the benefits of prior years of hard work, while remaining actively engaged with the people, places, and institutions we love.
Rabbi Address will deliver remarks at Friday evening services at TBE, focusing on the values that should inform a Jewish approach to the later chapters of life. On Saturday morning, he will reflect on the Torah portion, which includes complicated scenes of caregiving and rivalry between adult children. Later in the day, Rabbi Address will explore rituals that can help bring a sense of intention and sacredness to different steps in the aging process.
