Dan Nichols Returns To Temple Beth Emeth for Simchat Torah - October 5-7, 2023

Simchat Torah is a time for celebrating the end and beginning again of the Torah reading cycle. We read a few verses from the conclusion of Deuteronomy and then roll all the way back to B’reishit. A fun tradition amongst Reform Jewish congregations is to unroll the Torah so we can see almost the entire year laid out before us and acknowledge some of the bigger moments.

This year, rather than take a visual tour of the Torah, we are going sing our way through our journey from creation to standing on the precipice of the Land and back to creation with Guest Musical Artist Dan Nichols.

Dan Nichols is a renowned singer/songwriter whose mission is to engage our youth through music, creating connections, offering powerful value-driven lessons and teaching the joys of sharing the gift of music with others through song leading workshops. In 1995, after graduating with a degree in vocal performance from University of North Carolina, he established the Jewish rock band Eighteen, who have released 13 albums and are known for many favorite songs of campers from URJ summer camps and congregations around our country.

Among his many accomplishments, Dan created the Road to Eden Deep South Sukkot Tour to bring the message of Sukkot to communities in the southern United States, where his band played 11 shows in 10 days, and whose experience was captured in the documentary film: Road to Eden.

Dan will be at TBE to spend time with members of our community as well as perform on our bimah. In addition to the Simchat Torah event, some of the exciting opportunities to interact with Dan include his joining with Kol HaLev to teach some selections for the Friday evening service, joining the TBE clergy for Sukkot Morning Service and Yizkor, singing and teaching at the Friday afternoon Lunch and Learn, co-leading Friday Evening Shabbat service and Saturday Morning Shabbat and Yizkor Services with the TBE clergy, and singing with the religious school students.

It will be a full and exciting weekend! Mark your calendars! This is a weekend you will not want to miss!
